Sabé Masson x Oprisco

At Sabé Masson, we have been delighted to be able to collaborate with the talented photographer Oleg Oprisco, originally from Kiev, whose female figures illustrate each one of our fragrances. To celebrate the perfect marriage of his art and our Maison de Parfum, he has graciously agreed to today's "Soft Interview".

  • How much of a role does instinct play in your decision-making?

My work includes fundamental planning and preparation, meaning that emotion and instinct are put on the back burner.

Sometimes, even when I know all the nuances of a given concept, I'm not happy with the result. I might cancel the shoot, maybe several times if that's what is needed to perfect the image. In these cases, I'll work until I achieve the perfection that I've imagined in my mind.

For me, success is an image that I still like even after a month – that’s what I consider an accomplishment. Fortunately or unfortunately, I'm not interested in public opinion.

  • Our senses guide our instincts – which one speaks to you most?

Instinct maybe plays a part in the idea stage, when I create a concept. Composing shots requires cold calculation and total control of all details. Emotions and instincts are separate.

  • We can imagine that sight is fundamental for a photographer, but do you use any other senses on a shoot?

Having vision alone is enough to become an artisan photographer, a craftsman or an art technician. To be what we call a creator, to create art outside of time and space, you need the whole package of human qualities; global qualities like personality and charisma, and even just analytical and administrative qualities to bring together all the elements of the image-to-be and create an atmosphere on set.

  • Through whose eyes would you like to see the world?

I dream of learning to fully appreciate the abilities of my own eyes. We are lucky to be able to see the magnificent world around us every day, but we can't anchor all the images that we want to keep in our memory.

  • What are your main sources of inspiration?

This may surprise you, but I don't have to go too far to find my inspiration. Life around us is rich enough to give us everything we need, and more! It is therefore more about observing daily scenes.

  • Where did you get this passion for photography?

For me, photography isn't just a job, but a remedy, a drug and the source of my energy. It's also the only thing I know how to do better than other people. I'm the happiest person in the world.

  • Why does the female figure take central stage in your photographs?

I like women; for me, they represent eternal beauty.

  • Which fragrance transports you?

I like light fragrances, like wildflowers, with a touch of acidity.

  • What role does nature play in your works?

Nature is the basis of our world. Its wealth and harmony is also the basis of the beauty that surrounds us.

  • What are your plans for the future?

My plans are, of course, linked to photography. I have so many ideas; it would take me a whole lifetime, or even two, to realise them.

  • What inspires you at Sabé Masson?

Sabé Masson perfumes are a range of soft, sensual essences, unique and unforgettable. When they are on the skin, you catch yourself dreaming... You can't forget them, because you've just found the thing you've always been looking for.

This is how the paths of Sabé Masson, La Maison du Soft Perfume, and Oleg Oprisco Photography crossed in this world. The perfect marriage of fragrance and image.

Thank you very much for your answers, Oleg Oprisco!
